Updated District 65 2020-2021 School Calendar

Evanston Parent Editorial · August 13, 2020 ·

District 65 Calendar

On Monday, the School Board approved the amended calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. This includes the amendments as presented in the Board Presentation on July 22 as well as those outlined in ourReimagining Education in District 65 guidance. Here is a link to the Calendar-At-A-Glance.

Some important notes include:

  • August 20-21 – Staff Institute Days (No School for Students)
  • August 24-26 – Remote Learning Planning Days / Full Day School Improvement Day (No School for Students)
    • The Illinois State Board of Education has granted districts with the use of (5) Remote Learning Planning Days to be used within the upcoming school year. These count as instructional days and do not need to be made up at the end of the year.
  • August 27 – First Day of School (K-8)
    • August 31 – First Day for JEH Early Childhood Center Preschool for All and Special Education Programs / September 2 for Head Start programs
    • All students will begin the school year in Remote Learning. The In-Person Learning pathway will begin on September 29, if it is safe to do so.
  • Remote Learning Mondays – Mondays will be Remote Learning Days for all students, regardless of their selected pathway. More information will be forthcoming.
  • Half- Days – There will be no half-day School Improvement Days (early release Wednesdays) in the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Election Day – In May, Governor Pritzker announced that Election Day (November 3) will be a legal holiday, applying to all public schools. This was originally scheduled as a full-day School Improvement Day with no school for students. November 3 will be a school holiday for both students and all staff members. Due to this change, in order to meet the required number of instructional days and staff work days, the last day of school is now scheduled for June 2, 2021.
