Indoor Places for Kids to Play in and around Evanston (Winter Edition)

Looking for fun indoor activities for kids in Evanston when the weather turns gray and cold? Evanston and nearby places have plenty of great spots where families can play, explore, and burn off energy, without freezing outside. From open gym time at Robert Crown to creative play zones and cozy library nooks, these local favorites keep Evanston families active all winter long.

Robert Crown Community Center

Robert Crown Community Center is first on our list of indoor places for kids to play. It offers indoor ice skating and open gym time, as well as seasonal programming to keep the kids active—even when it’s too cold outside! Families can stop by for free play or just enjoy moving around when outdoor parks aren’t an option. It’s a lively, affordable spot that’s become a bit of a winter staple for Evanston families.

Evanston Public Library (Multiple Locations)

Evanston’s library branches are warm and cozy, even on the gloomiest of afternoons. You can attend story times, craft sessions, scavenger hunts, and so much more—or just curl up in a cozy spot with a stack of picture books! The Robert Crown branch inside the community center makes it easy to pair a library visit with open gym time.

Sky Zone

Sky Zone’s indoor trampoline park is packed with attractions that help even the most high-energy little ones burn off some energy. There are trampolines, climbing walls, foam pits, and even dedicated areas for tiny tots so they won’t get lost in the chaos! It’s an easy choice for a weekend outing, especially when it’s too snowy to play outside.

Altitude Trampoline Park

Altitude offers a mix of trampolines, foam pits, and dodgeball courts that keep kids moving for hours. It has a bigger and more open layout than some parks, which makes it nice for older kids who prefer room to wander with their earbuds in. Many families book birthday parties here, but open jump sessions are perfect for regular winter afternoons too.

Exploritorium at Oakton Community Center

The Exploritorium is full of hands-on play areas and kid-sized exhibits that kids from toddler to around age six can have fun with. It’s a contained space, so you can have peace of mind and chat with friends while the little ones play. This place gives “town secret” vibes—you know the locals know it’s a gem for cold days!

Norris Aquatics Center

The Norris Aquatics Center offers a warm indoor pool where families can swim, splash, and practice skills year-round. It’s a refreshing break from the cold and a fun way to introduce kids to swimming without waiting for summer. It’s especially popular with families who want an activity that’s active but not overcrowded.

Kids Empire Evanston

Kids Empire has everything families with younger children need to keep busy on a cold day. Slides, climbing zones, and endless obstacles will keep your tots totally busy while you take a breather. There’s seating for adults who would rather supervise than participate. Kids Empire is an easy pick for families with children.

Let’s Play Room

Let’s Play Room is a soft indoor space tailored to toddlers and preschoolers who aren’t quite ready for big trampoline parks yet. It’s packed with toys, sensory activities, and gentle play setups that feel welcoming even for the smallest visitors—not overwhelming. It’s small and friendly, perfect for those colder days when everyone just needs to get out of the house for a bit.
